Bum no more!

After a month of doing nothing, I mean being a bum, on Nov. 10, I will soon be joining the labor force as a Research Analyst-Economics for Thomson Reuters. For three months I will be joining the company. The salary is 13.5K/month, enough for the workload. What I really like about the offer is that the company is good since it is a multinational company and I need not to wear skirt their attire is just business casual.  Hehe! I don’t really like wearing skirts. Please pray for my first day. Btw I was hired through People4people. May God bless me! Aja! Marjie!

Archer turned movie star

Though the UAAP Season 71 was over, the basketball stars are still creating their name in the showbusiness. After the crowd’s favorite Chris Tiu decided to be a Kapuso host, another basketball heartthrob from the green side is trying his luck as a movie star. Yes, it is really true! Simon Atkins would soon be seen in the big screen. He just started shooting for the horror movie Sundo with Robin Padilla and Iza Calzado. Well, he got the looks and the confidence and he is also used to fame since he used to be a model and endorser of Hanford, together with Kirk Long and Chris Tiu.

I just hope that he will still be pursuing his basketball career since he is being expected by the Lasallian community to be the next TY Tang or JVee Casio, a three pointer guard. Good Luck fellow Lasallian. Animo!

The “bum” me!

Aside from officially being an alumnus of DLSU, I am now officially a “bum”. As of now I’m just enjoying being a “couch potato” in our house. These past few days I just watch tv and surf the net. It’s like I’m in a vacation. Haha! But don’t get me wrong, I’m still a citizen of this beautiful country and so I must fulfill my obligations to it, also to my family, my friends (?), my fellowmen and to out Lord Almighty. I’m currently looking for a job. I already had my interview with Metrobank, to where I also had my on the job training, and with Chinabank last week.

As for Metrobank, they were offering me an administrative job (which I think is pretty much good) wherein I would be dealing and computing for the salaries and compensations of the VIPs. It sounds great right! BUT! Yes! There is a big BUT! I would find a hard time transferring to other departments more to other companies if ever I would get the job. It is because the nature of work is really confidential. Also knowing that Metrobank is a local firm, the salary they offer is at an entry level. Actually, the job description is pretty much fine and no problem with the salary, but if I would find a hard time transferring especially if I didn’t like the job, I don’t want to be stuck to it forever. It would be my FIRST JOB! Hay!

As for my career path in Chinabank, I already had my exam and initial interview. I’m now waiting for their call whether I would be having another interview for the job I’m applying for. Actually, I’m applying for their Management Trainee Program. As we all know, if you want to earn big bucks MTP is for you, of course you have to have good grades, I mean, high grades. I hope I would be called soon.
Now, I mean as of this time, besides writing this entry, I’m also creating my jobstreet account. I’ve heard from a friend that jobstreet really works and she already had interviews in different companies because she registered to the site.

Well, well, well, what can I say? Good luck to me and I promise that the “bum” me would soon be over.

Ateneo apologizes over bonfire incident – Inquirer

Haha! ganun ba kagrabe ang lahat! Nasa Inquirer!Nakakahiya! - That’s all I can say.

Ateneo apologizes over bonfire incident

By Jasmine W. Payo
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 02:05:00 10/06/2008

MANILA, Philippines—A recent Ateneo bonfire celebration has added fuel to the varsity animosity between the Blue Eagles and the De La Salle University Green Archers, prompting an apology from top officials of the Loyola-based school.

Ateneo de Manila University president Fr. Bienvenido Nebres, SJ, recently apologized to the La Sallian community for an irreverent incident during the bonfire on the Ateneo campus last Sept. 30 to celebrate the UAAP championship won by the Eagles at the expense of the Archers.
Some of the firewood used at the bonfire had the names of the entire La Salle roster bannered by JV Casio, Rico Maierhofer and coach Franz Pumaren.

“Despite our rivalries in sports, we are both committed to Christian values and what was done is certainly a violation of values we share,” Nebres said in a letter to De La Salle University System president Br. Armin Luistro, FSC, dated Oct. 2.

As reports and photos of the incident circulated in blogs and online basketball forums, students and alumni from La Salle, and even Ateneo, branded the act distasteful regardless of the rivalry between the two elite squads.

Nebres said none of the school officials “saw it ahead of time, because the wood pile was covered by a tarp against the rain until the time came to light it.”

An alumnus already claimed responsibility for “producing the materials” and apologized to Nebres for “the backlash it created.”

“Our community accepted [Ateneo's apology],” Br. Bernie Oca, FSC, La Salle’s representative to the UAAP board, said Sunday. “We are also awaiting the results of their investigations which they said they will do.”

It was because of AN Atenean

The person behind the Ateneo bonfire incident already confessed and admitted his fault. He is Jesse Paredes, an Ateneo alumnus and former Standard Today columnist. He is also the  brother of musician Jim Paredes. Huh. What can I say, he is a respectable personality indeed, but his act didn’t show it.  (pertaining “only” to that incident)

Here is his apology letter addressed to Fr. Bienvenido F. Nebres, SJ, President of ADMU.

3 October 2008

Fr. Bienvenido F. Nebres, SJ
President
Ateneo de Manila University

Dear Fr. Nebres,

I write this letter for two reasons. The first one is to own up to producing the materials with the names of the Green Archers and placing them prominently in the woodpile before the bonfire for all to see.

Secondly, I sincerely apologize to you for the queasy situation you are in as a result of the backlash it created.

While the nature of this letter is a personal apology to you, please feel free to extend it to parties you may deem fit to receive it.

Sincerely,

Jesse Paredes
HS’54, AB’58

Honestly, the apology is all we need. Admitting his fault just proves he’s being an Atenean. I hope this would settle all the issues. Peace. Go Ateneo! Animo La Salle!

marjie25 on AMDG

Even if I’m a Tiu fanatic eversince last season, I find it somehow awkward to leave a comment on his blog. But due to the dlsu-admu rivalry that happened last tuesday during their bonfire wherein they put the names of our players in their bonfire woods, I was really disappointed with the admu community. This made me decide to leave a comment on Tiu’s blog.

Well, I’m one of those hundreds to make first comments on his blog. Though I hated that thing they did on bonfire, I’m still a fan of TIUva-TIUTIU…haha…lol

The Ateneo Bonfire Incident.

The recent UAAP season 72 has been controversial. Aside from having the archrival, La Salle and Ateneo, compete for the men’s senior basketball crown, there were also issues regarding why the green archers didn’t get their trophy during the awarding and that the last game was said to be “Luto” by some Lasallians and green archers’ fans. (Just for the record: The green archer team were in the locker room during the awarding and nobody did mind to call them to get their award- that’s according to Coach Franz Pumaren.) After the game, I thought it would all be over. Except for the rivalry of the two colors, of course, it would always be there to light up the “friendly competition” of both schools. So okay. They won, we’ve lost.

BUT. It didn’t end there. Just recently, hot issue (I mean literally “hot”) came up smoking in the internet, through the blogs, multiply and even forum sites of some Lasallians and Ateneans.  I’m pertaining to the bonfire event in Katipunan. I know that it was a celebration for the Ateneo community for winning the championship after all the hardwork of the team (including the investment of MVP to have their training in LA with some of the best basketball gurus). However, I think it was a foul and below the belt to put the name of some of the green archers, the coach, the staffs and even some of our brothers on their bonfire woods. I also heard that some also burned green shirts. Duh! What for? You’ve already won the championship. If ever they’ve lost I would understand why they acted that way. Just like what my friend have said “Putek! Foul yun!”. Proofs and evidences are all over the net. And here are some of the pics. (credits to Carmel)

I know that some of our players are arrogant but they don’t deserve it especially our brothers. As far as I can remember we never celebrated championship that way. We don’t put names of other players on our bonfire woods and burn blue shirts. For us, the way we celebrate championships were all food, dance, picture taking and concert.

Sorry if ever I offended anybody here in my post but I was just hurt and offended by this act. I know Ateneo is a good school and have produced some respectable personalities. I’m not generalizing the Ateneo community but whoever did this it was really unethical and really below the belt. It was not funny at all. It had offended the Lasallian community especially the students. Huh. Sorry. Really sorry. I don’t know how to end this post so let me end this way. Quoting another Lasallian- “You’ve got the crown, We’ve got the respect!” :)

Confession of a scholar/student assistant

Being a scholar is not easy. Though everyone else think that we are very lucky and fortunate enough to study for free in a prestigious school like La Salle, honestly it’s not that easy. Hardwork and perseverance is what you really need. Worse, scholars do experience lots of pressure. We have to maintain a GPA of 2.0 every term (actually it is not that hard if you will study). We are also limited to have three 0.0 grade during our whole stay in the university. If we do fail we will be the one to pay for the tuition and other expenses for the second take of that subject we failed. And what others do not know we are required to work for the university to give back the investments that they had for us. Either we become a research assistant for a professor or a student assistant for a certain department that we will be assigned with. I chose to be a student assistant.

As a student assistant I’ve experienced working with 2 departments in the school namely, Bussiness Management Department and the Yuchengco Center. BM dept was pretty fine but they gave us really heavy works like doing a data set out of a bag of survey sheets. I also worked under the chair during those days wherein I was required to write a paper for him. huh.. So I asked the sfa admin if they could assign me with other department. Thus, I was assigned to my dear Yuchengco Center. And I spent the rest of my stay in that dept.

Now that I am graduating, This term would be my last term of service. I will miss my ates and kuyas in the department. hehe..(sipsip).

But before ending my service I had my despedida party kuno haha…thanks to the free food… parang naging tunay na party haha…

me and ate chris

me and kuya leo

me, ate ai and kuya leo

Thanks ates and kuya. It’s been nice working with you…

Unfortunately Miss Aleli was not there and I did’nt have the chance to take a pic with Dr. Osteria. Ate Maricel just resigned so she missed it. Kuya Aron, Mr Fujimori and the former researchers were not there anymore so I have’nt got a chance to see them in my last days…hehe

PS: credits to ate ai for the pics…

Migraine

Move on!…

That’s what I just told my friend who consulted me about his heart problem. No further statements about that problem cause I love my friend and I don’t want to betray his trust. Haha. So for my friend, now I know why he likes me to sing this song. Don’t worry I’m already practicing and memorizing the song so that I can sing it in frontof you and say… Move on!!!

Oo nga pala, hindi nga pala tayo
Hanggang dito lang ako, nangangarap na mapa-sa’yo
Hindi sinasadya
Hahanapin pa ang lugar ko
Asan nga ba ako? andiyan pa ba sa iyo?

Nahihilo, nalilito
Asan ba ‘ko sa ‘yo? asan ba ‘ko sa ‘yo?
Nahihilo, nalilito
Asan ba ‘ko sa ‘yo? aasa ba ‘ko sa ‘yo?

Naiinip na ako, naghihintay sa ‘yo
Masakit na ang ulo, kailangan bang lumuhod?
Gusto ko lang naman, yung totoo
Yung tipong ang sagot
Ay di rin isang tanong

Nahihilo, nalilito
Asan ba ‘ko sa ‘yo? asan ba ‘ko sa ‘yo?
Nahihilo, nalilito
Asan ba ‘ko sa ‘yo? aasa ba ‘ko sa ‘yo?

Dahil, ‘di na makatulog
Dahil ‘di na makakain
Dahil ‘di na makatawa
Dahil, di na

Oo nga pala, hindi nga pala tayo
Hanggang dito lang ako

Nahihilo, nalilito
Asan ba ‘ko sa ‘yo? asan ba ‘ko sa ‘yo?
Nahihilo, nalilito
Asan ba ‘ko sa ‘yo? aasa ba ‘ko sa ‘yo?

Nahihilo
Nalilito
